Urban Administration and Development (UAD) Minister Babulal Gaur has said that journalists should maintain their credibility for strengthening democracy. For this, he urged citizens to follow the path of journalists who have been ideal in this field.

He was addressing a State-level journalism award function at Sapre Newspapers Museum and Research Institute here on Monday. On the occasion, citations, shawls and pens were presented as awards to 12 journalists. Four science propagators were conferred Lok Vigyan Samman.

Gaur said the Constitution refers to three pillars of democracy including legislature, executive and judiciary. But journalism is seen by people as the fourth pillar in view of its importance. Gaur compared journalism with religious perseverance and added that journalists should have to work with same devotion and struggle throughout life to maintain their credibility like a steadfast religious person. He urged journalists to expose shortcomings of society and Government with courage.

Presiding over the function, Sukhdev Prasad Dube of Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti said that Madhya Pradesh boasts of golden era of journalism. A number of journalists from the State took part in the freedom movement. He urged young journalists to follow highest norms of journalism and bring laurels to the State and country. Museum’s founder Vijay Dutt Shridhar said the Sapre Museum has established its unique identity in the country.

At the function, Rameshwar Guru Award was conferred to founder editor of Shikhar Varta Vishnu Rajoria, Yugal Kishore Award to Rajesh Chanchal, Makhanlal Chaturvedi Award to Kaushal Kishore Chaturvedi and Sunil Sharma, Jhabarmal Sharma Award to Ajay Tripathi, KP Narayan Award to Ashutosh Shukla, Arogya Sudha Award to Ruby Sarkar, Yashwant Argare Award to Reeta Modi and Homai Vyarawala Award was conferred to Sanjeev Gupta.

Yugal Kishore Award was conferred to Ayodhya Prasad Gupta and Lal Baldev Singh Award to Sudhir Agrawal. Science writer and propagator Prof KM Jain was honoured for creating scientific awareness in society and efforts to revive traditional science. Lok Vigyan Awards were also bestowed on Praveen Digharra, Madhuri Shridhar and painter Beeran Malviya.Y EDITION
